Self-Assessment
Looking after yourself
Is a Doctor’s appointment best for you?
Prior to scheduling an appointment, it is crucial to take into account the nature of your health concern. In the case of minor discomforts, there is a possibility of treating the issue independently in the comfort of your own home.
Soothing the symptoms can be achieved through natural remedies like taking a warm shower, using a warming pad, or placing a cold compress on the affected area.
Consider visiting your local pharmacy to address minor conditions like a cold or mild headache, where you can find over-the-counter medications like paracetamol or ibuprofen that can be helpful. Remember that if home treatment doesn’t suffice, it’s best to make an appointment with your doctor.
Trying NHS 111 first could save time and effort. Their online symptom checker is an uncomplicated tool that may offer some solutions to aid in self-treatment.
Who To Turn To
Booking an appointment
As a result of a surge in demand and numerous patients not showing up for pre-scheduled appointments, Llwynhendy Health Centre has revaluated its appointment system. Patients seeking GP consultations are now advised to either use the eConsult online system for routine issues or contact the centre on the day of their desired visit if the request is urgent or you do not have internet access.
At the Practice we offer a varied range of appointments including;
Same day Face to face or telephone appointments.
Telephone consultations – If the clinician decides that a face to face is then required this will be arranged by the clinician.
Pre-bookable appointments – These are available with selected clinicians. If a pre-bookable appointment is needed with a GP, this will be triaged first via eConsult or booked directly by a GP after a consultation.
The Practice does have urgent triage available daily for children under 16 with acute presentations and patients clinically triaged as requiring an urgent assessment. This is done by phoning the Practice.
eConsult
The eConsult GP Consultation System is a revolutionary healthcare solution that combines advanced technology with personalised patient care. Developed to streamline the process of accessing medical advice and treatment, eConsult provides patients with the convenience of virtual consultations with experienced GP’s from the comfort of their own homes. With its user-friendly interface and secure communication platform, eConsult empowers individuals to seek medical guidance for a wide range of non-emergency conditions, ensuring timely and efficient healthcare services while reducing the need for in-person visits.
Booking an appointment
Depending on your requirements, you could be given the option of an in-person appointment on the same day.
It is crucial to be candid and sincere with our call handlers, in order to ensure being directed to the appropriate person at the appropriate time.
If you cannot administer self-care, please contact the surgery to book an appointment.
Our aim is to reduce the amount of time patients wait to consult with a Clinician. However, in some instances, particularly as a non-essential attendee of a medical procedure, your wait might exceed your expectations. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we strive to provide the best possible care to all our patients.

Blood Pressure Reading
Add as many past readings as you are able. This will give the clinician a better idea of your blood pressure overtime. If the reading is dangerously high, you should repeat it immediately and if it remains above 180/110 urgently contact NHS Direct on 111, or the surgery. If the reading is dangerously low, you should repeat it immediately and if it remains below 80/50 urgently contact NHS Direct on 111, or the surgery.
